This story is truly compelling.  It’s beautiful because of the coach’s commitment to his university and kids.  It’s tragic not only because of the suddenness of his death but perhaps the idol he had with coaching.  It would be nice to know some of the back story as we don’t know if he did idolize his profession.  Nonetheless, a very compelling story and is deserving of a read.  Below is an excerpt:

Scott Lang was 41 years old when he died last month. He was not married. He had no children. He spent almost all of his adult life as the basketball coach at La Roche College, a tiny Division III school in the north hills just above Pittsburgh. He had an apartment and eventually a house but he might as well have lived in his office at the Kerr Fitness and Sports Center, the one he kept tidy with each picture perfectly lined on the wall and every file in order on his desk.

La Roche college is only about 7-8 miles away from our church. I have been to that campus and local hospital many many times. I know many people that go there and they were stunned to hear the loss of their coach. It is amazing to hear the dedication this man had to his players and the game. I never realized many of the details this article pointed out. Pretty much sitting in stunned silence after reading that.
