Charles is our most avid NASCAR fan and is one of CSO’s two homegrown North Carolinians. He maintains his loyalty to the North Carolina Tarheels and the corresponding dislike for the Duke Blue Devils.
Charles worked in IT for 25 years after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in criminal justice. (what an obvious tie to Sports and Sports Ministry!) He joined CSO in August 2007 as the Assistant Director of CSO International where he gets to combine his love for travel, people, and cross-cultural ministry. He enjoys the opportunity to see God in a different light through the lives of those CSO serves in countries where worship happens at a cost.
After growing up playing baseball and football, Charles has settled into the “easy” sport of backpacking where he has done a 150 mile trip to 18,000 feet in Nepal and gotten lost on a solo weekend trip on the Appalachian Trail in the dead of winter, 16 degrees. Sounds like fun, huh?
Charles and his wife Phyllis have been married since 1975 and have two grown sons – one who lives in New York and the other in Charlotte.
One final thought – After the Baltimore Colts lost to Joe Namath’s New York Jets in Super Bowl III, Charles skipped school the next day from embarrassment. For those of you who can’t remember “Broadway Joe”, this means he is really old!!
