Bob is our resident Gamecock – growing up in South Carolina and attending the University of South Carolina where he graduated with a BS in Computer Science. (He even married a South Carolinian.) He then went off to the north for graduate work at Ohio State but soon returned to his beloved South Carolina where he got his MBA at USC.
Bob worked in the Information Systems world (He is a techno geek at heart) in Florida and North Carolina before going on staff at Christ Covenant in Charlotte, NC as the Director of Ministries. In 1990, Bob started SOAR – one of the first sports outreach ministries in a local church in the US. In 1993, Bob went to work with Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) where he began to work with Joe Gibbs Racing. In 1996, Bob left MRO to work with Joe Gibbs Racing as their chaplain and start Carolina Sports Outreach to help local churches start sports outreach ministries. Bob currently serves as the Founder & President of The Sports Outreach Group – of which CSO is one of the two passions for this one ministry! He loves change and thinking creatively and has a keen sense for sequence! Actually, Bob paints holistically with a broad brush that stirs the thoughts and creativity of all around him.
Bob grew up playing football, soccer, baseball, golf, basketball, tennis, and racquetball. He actually played on the National Champion Wofford College Golf Team (before transferring to USC) but has never beat Bob Schindler in golf (and never will!). Besides golf, Bob likes snow skiing and Apple computers – really anything with an Apple on it. He is very involved in his local church where he serves as an elder and in the leadership of the local denomination. Bob and his wife Connice have three children – Elizabeth, RH, and Allie.
One final thought – Bob’s love for South Carolina football was demonstrated on a recent trip to Asia where he tried diligently to follow an important game against archrival – Clemson – or as Bob calls them the …. “the best high school team money can buy!”
